5 Reasons to Have a Festive Pub Meal at The Fleur De Lys

Welcome to The Fleur De Lys, a place so magical that Father Christmas* himself once said he would drink here more regularly, were it not for the awful commute down the M6 from Lapland.

This year, we are very excited about the possibility of you rounding up your favourite friends or coercing your family members into meeting here at the magical Fleur De Lys for your annual ‘We-should-do-this-more-often-let’s-not-leave-it-so-long-next-year’ gathering.

In case you have no such rendezvous currently planned, here are 5 fantastic reasons why you need to shape up and get yourselves booked in for a festive pub meal at the Fleur De Lys.

  1. Festive Pub Menu

We have an amazing 3-course Festive Menu available for you from 30th November - 24th December. It includes a red velvet brownie. There’s no need for you to query it. You can take a look at it right here and feel your saliva glands burst into life. We know, however, that many people are not that jazzed about turkey Christmas meals and we are, of course, acutely aware of our pastry heritage. That’s why the Fleur De Lys is the only place you’ll find a specific Festive Pie Menu and it is insanely tasty. We put pigs in blankets inside a pie, what more can you possibly want this Christmas?!

2. Beautiful Christmas Decorations

We have spent a small fortune on Christmas decorations. In order to make this more than just an expensive shopping habit, we would appreciate a high ROI by having lots of people come and coo over them whilst drinking a lot and ordering a lot of food. Whilst we can’t boast an amazing light trail and we haven’t quite managed to turn the pub into the Griswald house from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, we like to think that we decorate this old country pub tastefully and traditionally in keeping with its long history.

3. Festive Pub Drinks

Mulled wine is back! So is mulled cider! The absolutely perfect drink for warming up after a chilly walk in the Lowsonford woods, or alongside a delicious Festive Pie, or perhaps even as a quick ‘one-for-the-road.’ In fact, we’ll make sure we’ve got enough to give everybody an intravenous drip if they want it, whatever the reason. We’ve also got some delicious Christmas Cocktails for you, including a Mistletoe Spritz, Sweet Raspberry Lemonade and a Christmas Cranberry Spritz. It’s not all about the booze though: we have an extensive low and no alcohol range covering everything from gin to Guinness so that no designated driver is left sipping on soda water on our watch!

4. Christmas Group Bookings

We can book you in whether you want a romantic table of two for turkey, or even if you insist on bringing 30 people in and leaving your cracker toys all over the floor. We’re not fussy. We just want you to come and drink our Christmas spirits. I mean, feel the Christmas spirit! We have found that being smack-bang in the Midlands makes us a very convenient meeting point if you’ve got to try and coordinate a lot of people coming from a lot of different directions. Whether you want to meet up with colleagues in a different regional office, throw a university reunion or simply bring the family together around our table, the Fleur De Lys is essentially a beautiful, 16th century magnet in the middle of the country. Plus, if you book your Christmas meal at the Fleur De Lys, you don’t have to worry about catering or washing up - we do it all so that you can relax and enjoy each other’s company.

5. A Proper Pub Christmas

There is perhaps no cosier place to be than beneath the beams of the Fleur De Lys, ensconced next to one of our authentic log fires, feeling the warm embrace of 500 years of hospitality in this building. If you tell us at the time of booking that you want our Festive Menu we’ll make sure you’ve got Christmas crackers waiting (because why wait until the big day?!). If you don’t want to leave your dogs at home, we can accommodate them in our dog-friendly bar (because why should they miss out on all the Christmas pub fun?!). If you’ve got a lot of kids to entertain across generations, they are most welcome to let off steam in our acre of beer garden complete with an enclosed children’s playground. We really do try to be the ideal blank canvas for everyone’s plans, because a proper country pub should be welcoming to all.

So you see, we’ve got everything you need for a fantastic festive forum! Aside from all of that, we’re ideally located between the M42 and M40, which makes it very convenient whichever direction you’re heading from. We know that this is an expensive time of year, so we’ve kept our Christmas menu as budget-friendly as we possibly can, allowing you to maximise your eating excursions whilst minimising your spend.

The main reason you should visit the Fleur De Lys this Christmas is not something that can be put into words; it’s what the cool kids would probably call "the vibes.” Between 24th December and the 1st January, we find these old walls packed full of rosy faces and delighted conversations. Some days it’s like playing a massive game of sardines with how many revellers try to squish into our lovely country pub. It really is like being vacuum packed into a room of good cheer. We love seeing all our locals hanging out at the bar whilst every table is filled with folks catching up over long lunches and sumptuous suppers. There’s a little bit of Christmas magic sprinkled over the Fleur De Lys and we’d love for some of it to rub off on you.

Do get in touch if you’d like to book in during December. Whilst we give our team the day off on Christmas itself, we’re open the whole rest of the festive period. We’ll be delighted to see you, even if you insist on wearing a festive jumper.
